UNESCO’s Trafficking Project in Bangkok is undertaking a number of projects on trafficking. UNESCO is the lead organization for research within the UNIAP, and has a special mandate for minorities under the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity signed by all of the member States of UNESCO.
Current Projects:Trafficking Statistics Project: UNESCO is conducting a literature review and meta-analysis of existing statements on trafficking. UNESCO is tracing the origin of numbers cited by various sources, attempting to ascertain the methodology by which these numbers were calculated.
Minority Language Radio Drama Against HIV/AIDS, Trafficking and Drugs: Based upon extensive research and field work over the last decade, UNESCO has developed a unique and innovative methodology for producing culturally acceptable radio programmes in minority languages. These programs provide a means to educate target audiences of ethnic minority youth and young women on issues of HIV/AIDS, trafficking and drug abuse.
GIS-Linked Social Sentinel Surveillance Project: Through the Social Sentinel Surveillance Project, UNESCO offers assistance to NGOs and government agencies to build databases and GIS-capabilities to fight human trafficking and track the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
