Activities

ECPAT-Taiwan joined ECPAT International in 1991. Its activities include policy reform, law making, social education and cultural change towards the better protection of children. Their main goals are to fight against sexual exploitation, pornography and sex trafficking of children in Taiwan.

ECPAT-Taiwan provides counseling, protection and rehabilitation for victims, coordinates with Taiwan authorities on implementing anti-prostitution efforts.

Goals:

  • To rescue and to assist commercially, sexually exploited children under age of 18.
  • To conduct children's rights and gender equality on any level such as school, community and society.
  • To encourage travel agencies to exercise self-control in fighting against sex tourism and to tell their clients not to tour for sex.
  • To organise forums or discussions to deal with the issue of teenaged prostitution.
  • To lobby for the legislation and amendment of the issue-related laws.
  • To cooperate with other international organizations to combat against transnational perpetrators or traffickers

Members of ECPAT Taiwan traveled to JingLu Detention Center to provide art therapy courses to the girls. JingLu is a detention center that holds Chinese girls who have entered Taiwan illegally. The girls can apply to the Social Juveniles Welfare to get better treatment; however, they are awaiting deportation. There are about 103 girls in JingLu.

ECPAT-Taiwan supports a Web site where individuals can report Internet-based child pornography: http://www.web547.org.tw (In Chinese)

ECPAT Taiwan recently prepared updated information on Taiwanese laws relevant to trafficking. This information on updated laws is available for download in MS Word format.
