Activities

Norwegian Church Aid wants to prevent women and children from becoming victims of violence as a result of cross-border migration. One of the main issue is to raise awareness on the risks of migration and working in foreign countries. Another issue is to contribute to the capacity building on working skills and project management of authorities and villagers. The prevention is also done through creating certain income generating activities for the youth self-help groups in order to give them alternatives for income at their own community.

Prevention Activities:
1) Raise community awareness about the risks of being and illegal migrant or worker in another country;
2) Increase jobs at the community level.

Policy Activities:
1) Strengthen the network of parties involved in combating against trafficking of women and children;
2) Build the capacity of the provincial and district coordinators from the Lao Youth Union in dealing with issues related to migrant laborers. The Lao Youth Union in the provincial and district levels is a partner agency with NCA. The Donor for NCA is NORAD.

UNIAP Lao PDR is currently working with NGO partners on a media education project, whose main objective is to increase the knowledge of radio, print and television journalists on human trafficking issues. A secondary objective of this project is to increase the quantity and quality of human trafficking information and stories in local newspapers, on the radio and television. As a part of this project, UNIAP along with the MLSW, Norwegian Church Aid (NCA), and World Vision are co-funding a trafficking prevention radio programme targeted at youth. The goal of this project is to raise the awareness of Lao youth about the dangers of illegal migration, and how to avoid trafficking situations.
