The Home Affairs Bureau and Home Affairs Department are working to facilitate the early and smooth integration of ethnic minorities and new arrivals from Mainland China into the community in Hong Kong. To enhance their objective of building an integrated and harmonious community, the Department has proceeded with a scheme to establish centres for overseas domestic helpers working in Hong Kong to gather and carry out activities on their rest days. The objective of the scheme is to meet the practical needs of the overseas domestic helpers.
The Home Affairs Department has established seven overseas domestic helpers' centres for over 200,000 overseas domestic helpers working in Hong Kong to gather and carry out activities on their rest days. Various kinds of activities such as seminars, beauty contests and cultural programmes are organized by the overseas domestic helpers' associations at these centres. Facilities including an auditorium, classrooms, library, music room, cinema, canteen, beauty salon, remittance counter, photocopying machines and telephones for both local and long-distance calls are also provided.
